A Personal Note from Rob
Jackson -
Several years ago I took
one of my first phone calls from a sex addict. I can't forget what he said
after he shared his story, "I never intended to become an
addict". I believe my brief encounter with this man was God's design.
His statement is with me as I share this ministry with others by way of
the telephone, workshops, counseling, training, and the Internet.
"I never intended to
become addict" probably resonates with you, too. As you reach out for
help, I want to assure you of my personal desire that your life will be
changed as a result of this experience.
Perhaps shame or fear has
kept you locked into the double life of addiction? No doubt, denial of the
problem has maintained the addiction as well. Like many others, you may
have been suffering this degenerative disease since your first exposure to
pornography around the age of 11 or 13. Regardless, I assure you that our
hope in Christ purifies us.
I've had many addicts
remind me that they have prayed for help - even deliverance. They've also
told me that through the years they have committed themselves to prayer,
scripture memory, and church. With all of these efforts, many addicts have
come to feel like "what's the use"?
I've also heard the stuff
about there's no such thing as addiction, it's only sin. Still others seem
to view any sexual behavior as okay as long as it's not compulsive. I hold
a strong conviction that not all sexual sin is addictive, but all
addiction is sin. Frankly as a Christian professional, I believe this
diagnosis is far more optimistic than to merely speak of lifelong defects
of character. This spiritual and psychological diagnosis points us to our
need for a Savior, not only for eternal rest, but for this very moment.
That which the addict has struggled with for years can be extinguished in
Christ.
As a trained professional,
I'm aware that most addicts don't experience an event which immediately
cures their lifelong struggle with SA. We remain equally aware, however,
that God "is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that works in us . . . [Ephesians 3:2-21
NKJV]."
Here's the challenge: I
encourage you to commit your life to God through Jesus Christ. If you are
already a believer, but continue to struggle with sex addiction, I invite
you to commit your present sex addiction and forthcoming recovery to the
glory of God. I'm persuaded that when we offer the sum total of our lives
to God for His glory, we begin to see His grace meet us at along the way.
Whether you have recently
entered recovery as the result of "hitting bottom" or whether
you've been in recovery for several years and simply need to experience a
deeper healing, I invite you to email me or contact me at
888.891.HOPE.
Blessings,
Rob
